While scrolling through LEGO® Ideas, I discovered the Jeep Rubicon and was amazed by the sleek design and photography skills. I decided to ask its creator, Chiho Kim, a few questions.
1. It’s hard to make Technic pieces look beautiful, but they look so good on your Rubicon. How can a builder achieve a good balance when using traditional and Technic LEGO® together?
Basically Technic parts are also a kind of conventional LEGO bricks. Thus they perfectly match with each other. I like to use the brick holes (ex: 32000) and Technic pins (2780, 43093, 6558 and so on) to assemble the bricks and Technic parts. In order to make good balance, I think builders should carefully investigate the object they want to build. It can help one figure out which parts should be made of Technic bricks and which parts fit well with conventional bricks.
2. What camera did you use to take pictures of your Rubicon? Could you give us 1 tip for photographing LEGO®?
I used Canon 5D with 50mm f1.8 lens. The lens is inexpensive but works quite well for my shooting. When outside, I prefer to shoot in cloudy conditions or in the shadows. Using a CPL filter is a great option to remove unwanted reflections, so the surface of the LEGO bricks become more comfortable to see through the picture. Of course, small pieces of dust must be removed using some kind of brush before taking the pictures.
3. How did you stay motivated enough to actually complete your project?
I build the models that I really want to have, or to be, or to live with. For example the Jeep Wrangler is one of my dream cars. If you love the object, you cannot build the model without love. That same love will motivate you to complete the project.

In fact this project is published in the LEGO Ideas site, but it is still ongoing. I am trying to put color changes, other options requested through the comments, (you can see them in my second update) meaning that I am still motivated.
